Hurricane Recovery Program at the Sayreville Pump Station

Middlesex County Utilities Authority (MCUA), Sayreville, NJ

  • MCUA’s Sayreville Pump Station was inundated with 4 feet of water following Hurricane Sandy.
  • R3M mobilized resources to provide 24/7 emergency response along with construction contractors to be able to stabilize the pump station.
  • R3M worked with MCUA staff to restart the disabled pump station, initially using temporary bypass pumping systems capable of 70 MGD within 10 days of the event. Ultimately restoring the existing pumps and motors and switchgear to its 300 MGD capacity.
  • R3M worked with USEPA, NJDEP and US Army Corp representatives to develop unique temporary wet weather overflow systems to prevent further
flooding of pump station during emergency restoration activities.
